the sad bunnies are getting to me 😭

stunningly beautiful so far

love a lil “is the MC out of touch with reality or is everyone else not to be trusted” plotline

love the empahasis on the global fight / solidarity against imperialism shared by third world countries (also love how the book explains that the term third world was created to demonstrate the hope / “moving towards” colonized countries possess)

so far, i think i am enjoying the intention of this book more than its execution. the past two chapters i have read on the workforce and how its practices, at large, disproportionally marginalize women fails to mention the intersections between gender, race, and class!! which is disappointing bc the first couple chapters really honed in on those subjects :/

got 3 chapters on and realized this is the book adaptation of carol LMAO i was wondering why it felt so similar

y’all…. i’ve got some things to say about this book. for now, let’s just say that each time i start a new section, i look forward to being closer and closer to the end lmao

ok i’m glad we’re starting off with a solid definition of love while acknowleding how love is often regarded as mystical and undefinable. the striking claim that love and abuse cannot coexist is thought-provoking. interested to see where this goes

thoroughly enjoying this book so far! still experiencing residual whiplash from remembering that june called her (dead) friend’s manuscript ‘primordial’ LMAO

yeah… wasn’t the biggest fan of “fat lady”, yalom definitely has some work to do unpacking his hateful beliefs towards “unattractive women” lol. but! i enjoyed the other story “the wrong one died”, esp since i have struggled to provide grief counseling to my clients. it was interesting to hear how the death of a child can be perceived as the loss of the future / the loss of why/how of life

so far, i’m really enjoying this! as a counselor who integrates existentialism into their counseling, it’s super fascinating to see yalom’s approach! i apprecciate his insights as well as his self-critiques (hindsight is 20/20 of course). i love how the main thread tying the stories together is value-driven action which makes my ACT heart happy :’)

yeah this book is sick, who would have thunk it. ngl the way the protag views and treats women is making this difficult to digest
