okay okay only 75% of the way through the book and now we’re starting to pick up the pace!!!!

i don’t get it, is she getting paid per word for this book? why is it so needlessly long / drawn out?

certain chapters of this book just make me want to read more and learn more about whatever the topic is. Chapter 13 was a big one of those. Eugene Deb’s is such an underrated historical figure

i thought the word alphahole was like “asshole” but in this fictional universe, until they just used the word asshole and now i’m so cringed out

okay i am finally up to part 3, man is SJM really taking her time with this one

why does this book use the label “party girl” like a slur? it’s okay to be more fun than other people !!!!!

1. are any of these characters supposed to be likable?

2. i am honestly offended by how Bryce is written. like on one hand it’s supposed to be noteworthy that the FMC is “curvy” yet at every chance possible we are reminded that she’s certainly NOT FAT. curvy, but athletic. curvy but dances. curvy but runs. curvy but muscular. i would say this is more frustrating than writing a traditionally thin character

the brutality of this chapter was particularly devastating, i never realized how little i knew about US imperialism in the pacific/ south east asia.

it highlighted how much of our education truly was propagandized. so many topics that were touched upon but without any in depth understanding of how it all connects together. like how was i taught about The Jungle 100 times but never in the context of socialism?

i’m so glad to be reminded every 2 pages that the main character’s hair is indeed silky and her body curvy

i’m sorry is she legally allowed to do that?? it’s only the 5th chapter …..

i don’t think my brain maintained more than like 10% of this chapter

except ok 1 thing that bothers me is who the fuck is elain? why is she written like that? why are we constantly told how soft and kind and wonderful and beautiful and gentle she is but then we also compare her to a dog who’s only loyalty is to who can take care of her ???????????

okay this book was losing me for a little because it felt really granular and repetitive but this chapter brought me back.

These are the corners of history i have seen typically taught through white saviorism and supremacy, but not here. Zinn chooses to tell the stories of the civil war emancipation through a lense of dignity and empowerment.

this feels like a christmas themed fanfiction and honestly I love that

2. the privatization of indian removal feels oddly similar to the privatization of immigration enforcement
3. the parallels of village burning from indian removal to american colonialism in South east asia was haunting
