First reread, and thirty-five years later, no less. Unfortunately, and I say this as somebody who really likes Clive Barker a lot, the larger his canvases get, the more diffuse the actual horror.

Not at all sure how I feel about this.. The prose is amusing, but possibly not enough to justify the amount of work the brain has to do for gathering meaning?

Had to stop reading, as watching or reading about gambling addiction afflicts me with literal chest-tightening existential dread. I'll get back to this, but need some light reading, like Cormac McCarthy, to get my brain back to clear first

Daniel is 40% done with Careless People: A Cautionary Tale of Power, Greed, and Lost Idealism
This literally makes me want to vomit. The babysitting gig from hell aspect is bad enough (particularly as it is a given that Zuck and Sandberg are literally two of the most evil people alive, which is not a statement I make lightly), but also the incompetence and sexual harassment and horror-show stupidity. It's like, if these people can succeed based entirely and only on the strength of their connections...

This is so fucking unpleasant, not because of the alleged difficulty, though I really don't love the stylistic choices depicting mentally challenged individuals, but because spending time in these peoples' heads feels toxic.
