Now done with repaying old debts and gifts of charity, I go forth into the plot of revenge! Quite the formidable opponents our poor Dantes has, I'm looking forward to seeing how he lies these three low, and if he can be happy with Mercedes in the end!
I'm going to Maine on Friday, and I'm not sure what book to bring. Maine always evokes nautical vibes, so that narrows my options. This book is a bit cumbersome...

I've decided I will try to update progress every 100 pages or so. So far I'm very satisfied with my progress, and I believe that I can complete it before September ends.
The betrayal on all sides of Dante is truly terrible! Recently, I have become fixated on the toll prolonged imprisonment would take on me, and I would be stark mad or dead within 3 years. Alas, finally he sets sail to Monte Christo! Adieu Abbe.

So far, I'm really enjoying both the prose and story. It's incredibly easy to follow (despite footnotes being 1000 page following), and I can already feel my blood boil for the injustice committed against Edmond Dantes

Long and hard to follow, but really funny and informing on Song Dynasty China. A great example of why too harsh of punishments reduces authority and culpability, and how corruption of even 1 person can ruin a civilization.

Chapter 1=Done! Only a few hundred more to go... After another tediously long Penguin Classics forward, the book began. The writing felt modern, and the premise timeless.
I'm going to try to finish this and still meet by book goal of 15 for the year. Hopefully I can finish it by October, so I can read some horror.

Feels a bit YA so far in a bad way, but it has some cool ideas.

I broke my rule twice over and here I am listening to yet another Black Library book. The Necrons and their history are wonderfully decribed in this book, but more than anything it is exceptionally funny.
Notable and funny events:
Waking a guy from a 60 million year nap for jury duty
Dooming a world for a museum
Reporting stolen and item you stole, which belongs to a member of the jury... and so on. 5/5

Now done with the Priest and the Soldier and I’m honestly speechless. The beginning was very slow so its taken me more than a year to get here, but just wow.

The memories are such an interesting way of establishing the setting and task, and as I’ve learned more about the mystery of the Shrike and Time Tombs the more excited I’ve become.

The Bikura, Cruciform, and Ousters are wonderfully fleshed out and cool!

A bit slow for a G&K, but same as ever. Bit of a shame that the stakes only grow from here. I still love the tavern brawling dialogue, Gotrek’s threats, and the dilemmas the world throws at the Empire’s Greatest heroes. The chapter of the axe’s origin was great.

Lot more Oedipus, but the plot is good and going somewhere

It’s picked up a lot in the last 70ish pages and I’ve found myself really enjoying it! Still some very strange things going on, but mostly good ones now. Only a little bit of Oedipus Rex.
A bunch of threads/colors are starting to take shape, but in a very abstract way I’ve never seen.

Very slow start but i think its building towards a reveal of sorts, though I’m not sure if it’ll be in 100 pages or 400.
Regardless like 3 different plots are going on and its been a bit of a painful ride. Handjobs, cat torture, and beating up kids are the fuel I was given to get through this, so Im doing my best.
I dont think I ‘get’ it, so idk if I’ll read more Murakami if this doesn’t turn out

Picked up a lot since last time I reviewed! The plot development has been great and the characters fully unveiled. I love the themes of guilt, revenge, and the cycle of violence and how they impact the “God Slayer” and Minya.
My only problems have been the romance is a little eh? and the main villain was a bit underwhelming.

Slow and confounding beginning, it picks up a lot at the library. I just wish it didn’t skip over travel! The journeys in fantasy are often my favorite part
