Grace tells James that her mother is taking her to Idris and keeping her from communicating. She talks him they have to elope and get rid of their marks, become human. But he refuses and she gaslights him.

Mathew shows up interrupting Anna and Cordelia’s talk. They end up going on a mission and Matthew is surprised that Cordelia was willing to go with them. While in an alley with Cordelia Mathew starts reciting a poem verse and people start clapping for him. Lucie is writing a story when Jesse appears in her room and she is startled. They talk and as it turns out he was right in saying no one except her can see him.

A news crew is waiting for the four to come out of school but brownyn and Nate decide to escape through the back of the school and end up in a mall. They talk and brownyn kisses him on the cheek. Cordelia’s mother makes her older brother drop her off at Anna’s house. When she arrives a mundane girl is crying on the steps and she is confused but the girl is quickly taken awah bu her mother who thinks Anna is a man. James gets a letter from grace where she says she is in danger and need his help. Mathew and the rest of his friends wonder how they are in love .

James is being accused of being drunk and smashing the blackthorns greenhouse. His father is very upset and no one knows the truth that he was there because he saw a light which lead him to Cordelia. He thinks it’s because of her sword. All his friends are questioning him. Cordelia is headed to tea with an important shadow hunter.

Bronwyn and Nate are talking a lot more on the phone he gave her. They watch movies over the phone and when she tells Nate she only has 30 minutes left to talk he tells her to hang up so he can call her the next day and give her another phone. He seems to be growing attached. All four of them are talked to again since the posts were published for everyone to see. Everyone looks suspicious and they are scared.

Cordelia is being dragged by the demon in the green house when suddenly someone helps her. She realizes it’s James and together they Tun from the demon and manage to get out. James heals her wounds and lucie comes worried. James is there as a shadow but he doesn’t tell lucie. Cordelia and lucie try sneaking away from the house when they see a large crowd of people heading towards it. James doesn’t know.

Cordelia and lucie are at blackthorn manner to see Jesse the ghost. Cordelia has to knock on the door to distract grace and her mother but when they tell her to go away she goes in and is dragged somewhere by a demon. Lucie managed to sneak into their house and Jesse sees her. He tells her the reason why he’s not a normal ghost is because his body is persevered and his soul is separated from his body.

Addy calls her older sister to pick her up from the police station and they talk. Her sister convinced her to talk to jake about what happene, she s scared but does it anyways. Jake gets extremely mad and scares her but her sister picks her up yet again. Nate gives Brownyn one of his burner phones so they can talk but he lies and says he used to have a crush on her as a kid but she actually had a crush on him then.

James finally manages to be knocked into the shadow realm when his friend tells him that he only sees the shadow realm because that is where he belongs. He remembers the summer that he went to Idris and realized he has complicated feelings for Cordelia. He talks with grace and she guesses that he is in love with her. He denies it but realizes it makes sense, she has always been part of his life plans.

Mare is still crushed about cal choosing the crown over her. But she feels the worst because part of her wanted to choose him and the crown. She talks with Farley and they discuss how killing ptomelus would only cause more deaths even though it would mean revenge for shade. She ends up having to go to a meeting where cal is and it hasn’t been more than 2 hours after his betrayal.

A girl named Barbara who is the sister of one of James friends was one of the people to be hurt most during the attack. Cordelia tries to talk to Jen to figure out more about what is going on with her father. Lucie takes her away and says that a ghost has told her information about daylight demons and she needs to know if it is true. James attempts to go into the shadow realm on purpose to help Barbara.

There is a sudden demon attack on the shadow hunters having a picnic and many people are hurt. They are taken to an infirmary in James and lucies house and James arrives to see how people are doing. His uncle is telling him about James ability to slip into the shadow realm although he can’t control it.

Once all of them are taken separately to questioning they are showed different posts in simons blog about them. Only using their initials but people know it’s them. Brownyn cheated on all her chemistry tests, addy cheated on jake, cooper used enhancements to play better and Nate is still dealing drugs. They understand this gives them full motive to have killed I’m on and are all hiding something.
