quite a slow read, the pacing feels too slow and boring for me

So far:
- Stevie (main character) is okay. I relate to her love for true crime.
- Their circle of friends seems interesting EXCEPT FOR SOMEONE
- That someone is David, which according to the summaries of the other books is the male lead. He is a jerk. I hate him.

But I love the mystery. Although the constant shifting between past and present is quite distracting for me.

"They murmured about a place somewhere deep in the woods where a set of bones lay on a bed of moss, above which a troop of mournful flies had kept vigil the previous autumn until the frosts came and they, too, succumbed."

this is tragically beautiful

... as if he were a bumpkin who had been called, perhaps even in mockery...

so sad 😭
