Ecclesiastes was somewhat fun, a nice departure from the assuredness of the wisdom contained in Proverbs. It's subject of the seeming futileness of existence is something that would engage the modern reader. This is linked to how the author perceives his wisdom as "vanity of vanities", even leading to moments of epistemic humility, revelling in the contradictions of their proclaimed wisdom.

Psalm's is a collection of poems by different artists' who explore two main ideas: despair and praise. Throughout some of the poems, there is a strong sense of despair and dissatisfaction with life, due to the work of nefarious adversaries. Ultimately leading to reflections on the ephemeral nature of existence. This is contrasted with glorious praising of God as the source of all joy and excitement in the world.

Why write a poem of arbitrary suffering? In a world where bad things happen to good people, the rational conclusion seems to be that injustice abounds and God doesn't care to do anything about it. There are the usual apologetics of the incomparability of God and man, these are ultimately don't comfort one's suffering. Even when God speaks to you, he won't touch on the apparent injustice of your situation but gloat.
