I’m having so much fun annotating this book

They’re such BOYS in this book i can’t believe a woman wrote this. Ron only wanting pretty girls for the ball and being so mean to Hermione? Hermione being the only one to care for Harry’s well-being during the Tournament? “Don't you go upsetting them and telling them they've got to take clothes and salaries! You'll put them off their cooking!” Wth

1. Why is Harry friends with Hermione? He doesn’t really seem to like her as a friend, esp when Ron’s not there
2. Not Harry pointing out Ron’s “several inches of bare ankle showing beneath his pyjama trousers” lmao 😭🏳️‍🌈
3. The house-elf thing is really starting to pmo ngl

Lovedd the part about blind people seeing for the first time and the color-shapes and light and how we “see”. Also didn’t know about the starlings, so it was fun to read as well.
I found this part quite cute as well:
”Shall I take it outside and show it Andromeda, and blow its little endoplasm? (…) Maybe I should get a tropical aquarium with motorized bubblers and lights, and keep this one for a pet.”

This book reads like an impressionist painting. I don’t know how else to explain it

Not really liking the fact that June is being told ALL the info about Susanna and her own previous life. Having her husband and relative there, already knowing that she can time travel and handing her all the lore, kind of lowers the stakes if that makes sense?
The story IS interesting. The mystery of Nathaniel’s death and all. June is a bit of a bland protagonist tho, I have to say.

I like the vibes but idk how I feel about June getting info-dumped on by her (ex?)husband instead of having to figure things out by herself. The first half of the book is very like that, very “what’s going on”, mystical and weird and a bit unsettling. Now she just knows almost everything which killed the intrigue a bit for me tbh

Neil revealing he can speak French and everyone staring in shock YES

I love the characters and the lore but I didn’t recall this being soo exposition heavy? Most of the lore is told to Neil verbatim by various characters, or by Neil’s internal monologue, and it’s kind of boring to read ngl. Also a bit hard to follow since it dumps a LOT in one go.
Does Neil speak fucking french too?? Nora girl please😭😭
