Heartbreaking. The terror and grief of these poor families and the lack of support and action from police and the legal system is throwing all the feels at me. These poor angels 👼

I’ve said it before and I will say it again. This story is brutal and unforgiving. And absolutely WILD! Every-time I pick it up I am sucked right back into it

I would be surprised the authors keyboard still displays the symbol of a comma due to the excessive amount of them so far…one sentence had 9!! I’m finding the book JUST engaging enough to keep going but not an easy read given the style and format of test. Think this book will need to be read in bursts

“One day he said: 'In Japan they'll mend a broken pot with drops of molten gold. What a thing it would be: to have me break you, and mend your wounds with gold.' But she'd been seventeen, and armour-clad with youth, and never felt the blade go in: she'd laughed, and so had he.”

It is incredible how much the body holds onto when you are carrying trauma from childhood with you throughout life. When you dive into what PTSD actually is (not the over used phrase commonly used in society today) it is nearly incomprehensible the toll it takes on one’s body

Enjoying this! Learning so much - have previously read Ned Kelly’s story (when I was a teenager) but enjoying diving back further in time and getting more background on parents, immigration etc

“The prospect of a return from Australia is so remote that the emigration ceremony becomes a wake for the living.….On the night before their departure, the emigrants listen to their eulogies just as if they were at their own funerals.”

Not a light read/listen - bullying and racism on top of more bullying and racism and a decent sprinkling of bad parenting. People suck. Enjoying is the wrong word given the subject matter but I am engaged in the story.

Look…I’m bit confused. I even checked to make sure a new book hadn’t started on Libby instead of this one as felt like a total different story started… but we will get there. I think it is just giving background on another character POV 😅

The feeling of unease atm is delightful. Listening to the audiobook and I appreciate that voice actors making it easy to differentiate characters especially with the format of this writing (journal entries and letters)

Really enjoying this book so far. Parts are so surreal to me, their methods back in 1950s seem wild now days 😅
