Just what I need right now tbh

I don’t know how much longer I can stick with this book. It can’t decide if it wants to be an allegory or a novel, and the result is two-dimensional characters that are just circles on the chalkboard of a sociology 100’s class saying things that no modern person would say in order to further a discussion that’s a lot simpler than it thinks it is.

I’m curious to see if this story is going to treat the characters as multi-dimensional people or figures in an allegory. It’s kind of toeing the line right now.

Ok nevermind it’s satirical we’re good we’re good.

One page in and the idea that a post-white USA would immediately become an anarchist utopia is tasting a bit noble savage trope. I’m hoping this is exaggerated for satire/commentary.

I first read this book when I was petsitting for my mom last summer so I was compelled to start it again while petsitting this summer. I’m curious if I’ll have different thoughts

All the new characters introduced are amazing but the conflict between the houses is much less interesting than I thought it’d be. The overall status quo for this world hasn’t changed, so it feels like I’m watching the characters just run around in circles.

Malm uses “deaf” to mean “purposefully ignoring” many times. This is ableist and the constant repetition of it makes it even more grating.

SOOO GOOD so sweet and funny and heartfelt I have to stop myself from finishing it too fast

Useful, tangible information conveyed in a compelling and inspiring way. It’a clear that there’s a lot of wisdom packed in here, but I might need to get a physical copy to really absorb it all.

Narration is witty at times but way too “hello fellow kids” at other times. I’m interested to see where this will go!

Wonderful pacing, a perfect mix of action, inner monologue, and memory.
