this book is both dense AND heavy

i don’t want to read abt lucrezia being assaulted anymore pls

guys i had to give it back to the library 😭 but i will get it back soon / will be listening to the audiobook on walks

*love the rebecca vibes: eva in the house is a personal invasion of isabel’s space because it is kept as a shrine to her dead mother - even her dishes are shined but never / rarely used yet all the rooms and items must be kept as they were when the mother was alive

actually the way the friendship arcs have played out is really well done and it answers for some of the problems i had earlier abt their dynamics

i finally got to the reason they broke up, which is rational and well plotted. however i have realized i don’t like these types of past/present timelines romances bc you wait most of the book to find out why they broke up and it delays my ability to root for them in the present timeline. i almost wish i could read it chronologically instead

these two need to kiss and also talk abt their breakup and the dissolution of their relationship in detail ain’t no way you dated for EIGHT years got engaged and then broke up in 4 mins w/o ever discussing it like huh

that was the most uncomfortable scene lucrezia i am so sorry

confused why they’re flirting and reliving memories of their first kiss yet apparently wyn thinks harriet cheated on him? this is our first hint of what the conflict was that broke them up

still confused why they break up? they’re clearly still attracted to each other and care for each other

also i’ve read 100 pgs but don’t feel like i understand these characters i just have a random collection of facts

beautiful metaphors and writing but long winded and i wish we were a tad bit closer to the characters emotionally ! however it is very immersive

also a little confused as to how all these ppl became friends bc they all seem caricatured and like caricatures that wouldn’t get along 😭 and the story is not helping me envision the friendship dynamic

i’m so confused as to what could possibly have caused wyn to break up w harriet - his fiancé and gf of EIGHT YEARS - in a FOUR MIN PHONE CALL

also confused as to why they couldn’t tell their friends they broke up? i get not ruining the trip but what abt the time in between the breakup and the trip literally any of that would’ve been a good time

the similes and metaphors of this book are rich and visual but the pacing is quite slow

some of this is cute flirty banter and some of this humor is cringe in a way that gives me the ick and that’s what i don’t like abt her books play i get the ick so fast 😭

valentine’s day is approaching so it’s me vs the last emily henry book i own (maybe i will finally like one of these 😭)

so far positives: the descriptions of friendship and romanticizing the details of your life

negatives: this friend groups sense of humor

i have gone on such a journey w margo and she looks at everyone w much more empathy and nuance than i do that’s for sure even when it takes her time or strength to have to do it it’s so admirable

i am feeling a rage at shyanne that i have never felt at a book character in my life i actually despise her

meeting JB i’m terrified what if this is bad
