i don’t really understand mei’s choice here at all? you’ve been waxing poetic abt how much you love ping for 10 chapters practically and now you leave without him

now this one i am quite enjoyed now that we’re through the set up

1) i like this book less the more i read
2) i don’t trust otto, i think he’s done something even more nefarious than we’ve heard abt yet, perhaps bordering toward eugenics territory
and 3) matthew is a shit father

abt to get to the good part where all povs overlap and we’re on our quest !

every choice nick makes pisses me off and makes me cringe simultaneously PLEASE stop pushing away your mom who actually cares abt you and idealizing your dad who you’ve never had a relationship w over top of her !! listen to her perspective stop shutting her out omg also OF COURSE if you get w a girl while she has a bf she’ll do the same to you later on why would that be a shock to you

every decision nick is making is making me cringe

very readable / binge able as i’ve said but the characters lack depth ! even the main ones like i don’t understand any of them or how they’ve changed in the time gaps

social commentary is interesting to an extent like how matthew’s money is influencing relationships

i love how seeing kissen at home opens up a completely different side of her and i like the characterizations we’re getting of everybody so far - still not certain i understand the history of the world / war but more of it is piecing together

this is compulsively readable i’ll give it that but watching nick lie to his mom is stressing me out also … i don’t think i like matthew im suspicious of him also also how did lily become like her mom

WHAT IS LILYS MOM DOING TO HER GENES AND HOW DOES SHE KNOW MATTHEWS DAD I DONT LIKE THIS i thought i was reading a historical fiction family saga i dont like this thrillery angle i was waiting for the ball to drop abt lily and matthew’s relationship not some sort of genetic interference w the baby ?!?

epic opening i will say

the pacing of this is a bit brisk we’ve already covered NYE 2000 and 9/11 within like 20 pgs of each other also her and matthew dated 2 wks? maybe? he’s coming back i know he is bc of the blurb, but im rooting for her to date luke

the chapter the book is named after actually left my jaw on the floor

finally we have a blue & gansey interaction where they know each other i really forgot how slow paced this book is but also how real and how deeply we know the characters

i forgot how slow this build up is pls get to the part where blue and gansey properly meet

i bet y’all thought i wasn’t reading this anymore

were so back and actually the imagery and metaphors are really beautiful in this, as is the emotion and empathy and honesty even if there is not much of plot
