whoa murder!! I can feel the themes of this book tying together, slowly but surely. I hope to understand what happened to Robert, and Harlan Kane before the book ends, but the chapter has switched to a new point of view so I am not sure if it will...

Lillian, the mother who now lives in the yellow home in the north woods, seems to be struck with a curse. the first mention of her is when a "doctor" comes to help her with her "troubled" son. he has schizophrenia and the doctor seeks a operation to help him. but then he is missing! Later, Lillian writes to prisoners to keep her mind off of her mining son, and finds out she is writing to him himself! love this book.

absolutely confused. this house in the woods seems to draw in the oddest lot of people, mostly people who don't appreciate the natural world, until they experience the wonder of the north woods. now, a new chapter has begun with a crime investor, writing notes on a woman and a man who have "gone mad". not sure if I like this part of the book very much.

this book is an absolute masterpiece. it’s like i’m reading a painting, each chapter is a different brush stroke that alludes to the whole story. i am attached to this “north woods home”, as it fills people with love and mystery, i feels its connection to myself. i hope to visit new england one day so that i may find that special place in the woods that so many have in this book.

i feel like i am IN this story, in the woods with alice and mary and the osgood wonder. so far i really enjoy this book, and i am excited to see what the cabin in the woods holds inside, and it’s mystery.

I miss reading Tom Robbins, he is so creative with his writing. so far this book is about the adventures of princess Leigh-Cheri, she has been pregnant, locked up, and has a father who cannot play poker because his heart is "too loud".
I really enjoy this book so far, I hope that it wont be as confusing as Jitterbug perfume

im not sure how im still able to read this book. its gruesome, sickening, ugly, and gross. i feel so much anger and hate for Krisan, the boy who dug up his cousins grave, killed his other cousin after promising to marry her, and after raping her in the school bathroom. this book makes me afraid, it only furthers the point of the title; "beauty is a wound."

Its becoming harder to read this book. the three sisters, Alamanda, Maya Dewi, and Adinda, have all lived such tragic lives full of pain and suffering at even the young ages of 21, 18, and 16. this book makes me feel anger, pain, and the need to punch every man in this book, in the face.

this book is becoming harder and harder to read, every man in this book is overcome by lust and greed and ultimately lead to brutal sickening sexual violence. in a way, it makes sense for the book, becuase every woman in the book is beyond beautiful, which either leads to them becoming prisoners of war, raped, or dying, the title of the book is beauty is a wound, which is sickening and heart breaking.

i’d say that every page of this book has a new story in it, now, a story of a prisoner war camp, a story of trying to hold on to the things you cannot keep, a story of survival. but at this point the idea of women coming together no matter what, is the most prominent theme that i can see..

wow what a start, a woman rising from the dead, the story of her and her “hideous” child who she named beauty. i am nervous and excited to see how it turns into a story of more than just that, but i am already very intrigued.

i have no problem finding books that give me nightmares.
this book makes me feel sick, feverish, like im dreaming but in a bad way. its like being in a room knowing but also not knowing if you are alone. this book also really reminds me of "The Heathers", Max, and Ava, and Samantha's relationship is tedious in the way J.D and Veronica are. i dont know, it felt like drugs at frist and now it feels like a horror film.

"we women are peculiar creatures. we tend not to love those who murder our families."
At this point in the book, any sort of distraction from the pain outside of the women's hut brings joy to the women of troy. A woman named Maire gives birth to a baby boy, which initially spreads happiness and hope across the hut, but then thyey realize that any boy new born must be killed, as per Pyrrhus's orders.

Brisies, the main character, has an ability to seek the truth in many stiuations, even though it is beyond tough for her to live in the camp. after her and Amina were caught burying the dead body of their former kind of Troy, Pyrrhus releases all of his anger on Amina, leaving Brisies to understand that she in fact had wanted to die helping her king, rather than live under the rule of those who killed him.

The hope that emerged throughout this section that i read created a sense of community and enjoyement in the camp, specifically for the women. something that became more clear was how important kind Priam was, to the women of troy, and all of the people that looked up to him. i would really like to know more about who he was, his role in troy, and how he influenced his culture.

the difference in the way that achilles and patroclus and basically all of the men are portayed from "the song of achilles" is quite interesting. even though i loved that book, i am enjoying reading about the women's perspective more now, it feels more genuine and less fantasy like that "the song of achilles".

slowly, i am coming to the conclusion that many banned books, are the best kinds of books. Fahrenheit 451 explores the life of a fireman, not a man who puts out fires, but who burns books. Guy Montag slowly learns that he isnt happy, and that books themselves have meaning, as well as truth. so far i am really enjoying this book, its not easy to read, but i know that any book like this isnt.

" he walked out in the gray light and stood and he saw for a brief moment the absolute truth of the world. the cold relentless circling of the intestate earth. darkness was implacable. blind dogs of the sun in their running. the crushing black vacuum of the universe. And somewhere two hunted animals trembling like ground foxes in their cover. Borrowed time and borrowed world and borrowed eyes in which to sorrow it."

genuine question that comes up when i read this:
what the heck was Cormac McCarthy going through when he wrote this?
I cant imagine it was pleasant.
"The blackness he woke to on those nights was sightless and impenetrable. A blackness to hurt your ears with listening. Often he had to get up. No sound but the wind in the bare blackened trees."

incredibly amazing writing, but it is super heavy and difficult for me to read for a long time.. i notice that almost every dialogue between the boy and his father end with the word "okay"

yet another post apocalyptic book. the man and the boy, travel south across the gray and ash ridden lands. they encounter many many dead bodies, burnt buildings, memories of the "old world". the boy and his father have an interesting relationship, the boy is always scared and the man doesnt listen to him. they seem only to exchange a few words when they converse. i really like this book so far!

this book is spinning into place, i say spinning because its not settling, its never calm or "chill". every single word means something, which adds a level of exhaustion to reading this book, but its worth it. Emily St. John Mandel is a genius. she incorpirated past character from her other books (station eleven , the glass hotel) and herself as the chracter Olive Llewellyn.
