Reading this book and I feel like it just found me at the right time. Top 5 of the year, maybe top of my lifetime.

i’m a sucker for love

Actually this is a very sad book. My favorite character who I once thought was mythical, godly you could say, is actually extremely powerless. Which, maybe is also why I was drawn to her.

Elena and Lila’s friendship, despite any animosity? is a safe heaven, a respite in their troubled and violent world.

Really noticing some things on this second or third read: poverty, violence…Probably some of the reasons I find it so relatable despite the racial differences.

Also really touching, how much you can feel the love Lenu has for Lila before their relationship begins to descent into jealousy, insecurity what not. I’m also more forgiving of Lenu for her insecurities, really instead focusing on her neighborhood

One of my favorite books. Started reading it again on my flight to cali, and wow, the beauty (almost) distracted me from my fear of flying.

I remember first reading this book in college, having not yet come out, I guess I hadn’t even accepted my sexuality yet. But I read this book, and it completed exploded everything I knew about the world. I recommended it to my professor, I guess not really knowing how connected I would feel to a queer elder later in life. Picking this back up in my late 20’s and seeing how things change.

I honestly forgot how good this book is 😭 disturbing on so many levels

Picked this up because one, I had always wanted to read it since I was a child and two, watching the Artemis II mission definitely reignited my interest in space.

Rereading since i’m reading it with my girlfriend

I’m finding that there are passages that completely bore me, others that grab me and seem to almost, expand my thinking. Idk trying to work my way through and finish it’s since it’s such a short book and after all for the gays.
