Preliminary thoughts: the last book was set in New Orleans and that was very fitting setting because of the supposed paranormal activity and events that occur in that area but this book is set in Italy. Maybe it’s bc I don’t know lore but that feels like the least paranormal place. I’m trying to keep an open mind

I like how dark it is. I was really worried it was gonna be super similar to another book I read recently, because they follow a similar premise, but they go about it in very different ways which makes me happy

Wait guys I am loving this. I do kind forget the characters unless they are like prominent, so when the author mentions this random connection to a person who has only mildly appeared I get kinda confused on who we’re talking about. Lowkey would kill for like a list of people in the back and how they are connected but not ina way that detracts from the story

This is what I imagine drug store romance book at the beach would read like. Not necessarily in a bad way, it’s cute

Don’t think I love the main male character, Charlie, he’s being annoying. And they two main characters haven’t even met in person yet and he’s already being overbearing

The only thing you could think to do to distract him was kiss him??? Slap him or something don’t piss me off

I really like when a main characters trauma makes them a better person instead of making them pitiful

Okay so she’s supposed to be training for this deadly competition and yet? The author hasn’t described a SINGLE DAY OF TRAINING. If you’re going to give the reader an estimated time of like 6 weeks to have her train and then never describe her training, then how am I supposed to believe she’s going to win?

I’m sorry guys I just can’t get over the stupid cursing, like 😭 maybe if this book didn’t include tht I would like it more “kapastraa forked brow” WHAT ARE YOU SAYING! How can you even type that

I almost NEVER dnf books but I might have to because of the stupid cuss words they are using. “Rovials tainted tomb” among others and I’m only 55 pages into the book. I wanna move past these but the author uses different versions of it so frequently

Okay super big update since the last time. Molly is so smart and I HATE that fitz keeps dragging her along. He cannot marry her, not until king shrewd is dead and who knows how long that will be. He’s like fully bonded with the wolf and I don’t have positive feelings about that, because I don’t want anything to happen to fitz, and that kind of magic is perverse (according to burrich)
