Delightful as always though reaching for such a childhood bedtime story deep cut has made me unfortunately aware that I’m starting to scrape the bottom of the barrel for “books I can read that are good enough to not irritate me but not so gripping I can’t fall asleep after”. Unfortunately, bedtime reading is all I have in my foreseeable future still so time to go fishing for some new recs.

I love a pulpy, fun mystery and really don’t need them to more than that but the frustration between how interesting and fun the plot COULD be and and how irritating the actual writing is means I’m going to save myself the headache and DNF :/

Clearing out my Library holds and already I am side eyeing the kind of artless lore dumping that’s happening a scant 22 pages in

I may not have ever watched AMC's The Terror but as someone who keeps picking up books clearly written by fans of it I like to consider myself something of an ally.

This is so short it feels silly not to finish but I find the main character such a slog it's been difficult

Dragging through the last quarter of this not because I’m enjoying the third book any less but because I’m dreading it being over and having to find another pre bed time book that absolutely will not compare to

Going to have to pause this, not sure whether it’s not the book for me or a temporary mood but it’s become a slog and I’d rather read something else and actually enjoy it.
