Anyone else not impressed with GR taking away the messaging?

Well, this should be interesting. The first and (until today) last read of this was back when it was originally published in 1978. Just found an audio version, thought I'd see how the book I read at 15 holds up at 63.

Good lord I'll be glad to finish this slog.

This is, so far, a (if you'll pardon the pun) watered down version of King's THE MIST. So far, I've been able to pretty much predict all of it.

Let's hope Godfrey breaks out and runs with his own story. But so far, it's...barely okay.

The whiplash changes in tone aren't fun. This book was fun in the 1989 era, silly in the 95 era, and now we're seeing Hill rewrite Firestarter for the 2000 era. Hope this all goes somewhere.

Okay, Mr Hill, you have my attention.

1 hour and 18 minutes in, just passed the really cool nod to one of dad's novels, they start with the stupid sound effects in the audiobook. I hate sound effects in an audiobook.

Just starting this. God, I hope it's a good one. I haven't really enjoyed a novel by Hill since 2013, when N0S4A2 came out. We shall see.

24 stories done, and I can truly say I loved four, and enjoyed another five. And really, only a single author seemed to really go out on a limb and do something within the world (thank you, Poppy Z. Brite!)

I have ten to go. Is it bad that I just want the damn book to be over with?

Um.... unlike every single story so far, I'm kinda over the Captain Trips part now. Can we move on to ANY other part of THE STAND other than people getting sick and the lawlessness that follows?

Well, this should be a rollercoaster. LOVE The Stand, can't stand Keene, love a good chunk of the contributing authors, can't stand a few of them, and a few I simply haven't read. And here we go...

OMG, this one is...SO RACIST. Granted, the book is 91 years old, but...damn...

I can see why a lot of readers are DNFing this one. I've never read China Miéville before and, after this? I won't read anymore. His writing is simply terrible.

That's two indie published books I've had to DNF in a row.

People, spend some money. Get a good editor. I shouldn't have to read "taught" for "taut" and "bouancy" for "buoyancy" and "sheer" for "shear".

Or put up with bad formatting, missing commas, and, unfortunately, writing that isn't very good.

I respect both authors enough to not review the books, but damn...I want to.

Good god that second novel was a SLOG.

Welp. This is going pretty much as expected. I'll be glad to see the ass end of this book.

Gonna say right up front, I'm terrified to read this. Yes, the original Doc Savage has its flaws, but this is James Patterson, and I've never read anything that he had a hand in that I liked...but I love Doc Savage.

So, let's see which way this one falls.
