I wish, instead of taking away messaging, Goodreads would take away friends recommending books to friends. Because the ones that are sent my way? Yeah, it's not, "I loved this book! You will too!"
Nope, it's "I wrote this book! Read it."
For anyone out there who's an author? Don't do this. Please.

Aren't recommendations available to friends only? In that case it might help to unfriend those who're especially annoying. In the worst cases blocking the author (on their author's page, at the VERY bottom, very small fine print) is also an option.Granted, none of this is ideal, but it's a possibility (and it works, by my experience).
Sounds like more of a demand than a recommendation!! Just used that lovely block feature myself this morning. Need to recheck my settings. I thought I had it set to only friends could send me messages. But apparently that is not correct.
A couple months ago. I was looking through some things and I found a short story I wrote for a creative writing class years and years ago . It was actually kind of cute for 2 or 3 pages long. I highly recommend it if you like short stories about lemonade stands!! 😂😂🤣🤣.
Yeah, I unfriended the person. But still...why not just allow us to shut that feature off altogether?

LOL!
I was joking around, by the way😁. I am not going to send you my 20 year old short story to read. No worries!!! I probably wouldn’t be able to find it again anyways!!
I'm pretty much in favour of an option to toggle recommendations for individual friends (yes, you can send me some; no, you cannot, nor can you; ah yes, you read the same stuff as I do; don't know, let's see what you read - and how you rate or review it - for another couple of months... etc.).I know lovely people who read great books, just, it's books I likely never will have any interest - or time - to read. Luckily almost nobody pesters me with recommendations, but still, it would be nice to have (esp. for those with a plethora of friends).
Quality of life updates and such. One can dream...

We can't turn this recommendation thing off whatsoever.
