i think the hardest part of this read is how much i relate to esme. she’s literally just neurodivergent, and her freedom was so close. she had her Out of that house and they locked her up got having fun and whimsy and i think of how many autistic/nd/otherwise girls were locked away for being different. makes me feel sick

This book was a beautiful insight into life at this time in Brooklyn. Francie is a wonderful narrator who I found myself relating to throughout the novel.
