i think one of my biggest hang ups with sci-fi is that i would rather read about the stuff it’s commenting on as non-fiction. like the core can be interesting to me, but the stuff that wraps it up to make it a sci-fi story is quite boring. i just don’t care when it comes to most sci-fi for me- i would rather have the information presented in a different genre

i’ve tried to pick this up a couple of times and this is the first time it’s sticking. i’m not far into it but it feels a little crazy to read about things i’ve only heard in passing from family members that would have been young (~teenagers) but alive during the dictatorship. probably not the best holiday season conversation :p
