The feet descriptions are a lot ☹️

Cautiously optimistic but I’ve heard this book has an uncomfortable amount of foot descriptions and sure enough the first one is 3 pages in.

Hope this is good bc I wanna watch hellraiser but ofc I gotta read the book first. I was struggling on zlibrary trying to get this. It was acting so sketchy it was saying where I live and my IP address on a pop up. If I get kidnapped for a mediocre book I’m gonna be mad.

“This exerted pressure on me, on my so-called soul, as it would have on the ‘soul’ of any fellow primate.” The writing……………… the writing is killing me.

The narrator (or just the author) uses unnecessary academic language just for the sake of it. Sometimes the new words are pretty cool, but saying “I saw no fellow Homo Sapiens”. Can’t tell if this is just characterizing the main guy as obnoxiously smug or if this is how the author prefers to write, but it’s kinda annoying to read.

TOTALLY CALLED THE TWIST. I’m sorry to the author but I’m so bad at calling twists so this must’ve just been super obvious.

“I’m a dime a dozen, and everyone is looking for a quarter” doesn’t make sense. A dime a dozen means it costs a dime for a dozen of you. Not that you are only worth a dime (and so ppl looking for a quarter would be unsatisfied). I’m peeved by this misused expression but I get what was being said.

Idk why I was under the impression the book had a guy protagonist. Took me like 8 pages. Anyway pretty excited for a new horror book. Love my horror.

The writing in this is really hit or miss for me. There’s some metaphors that I think are just really beautiful, but then there’s sentences that just drag on or get so complicated they’re kind of incomprehensible. There have been a few sentences where I’ve just had to sit and reread them trying to figure out what was being said before giving up. There’s a lot of fragments too which kind of peeves me.
