this is interesting. i read this and the third one (maybe the second one too) as a kid, or perhaps no older than 18/19. certainly not as a grown adult, anyway. so i didn't really GET a lot of the things. i was more just keen on the grisly details, as a horror-obssessed young'un. anyway.
so i have thoughts about how this is much more character-driven than expected - aside from the endemic 70s 'men-writing-women'.
