I’m in this story and I’m scared.

I think it’s truly terribly romantic that Fitzgerald wrote Zelda into all of his novels and included her negative aspects. That man loved her so much and was fully aware of who she was.

Baby this is the first Hemingway where I have tried listening and it’s a much better experience I should have listened to everyone under the sun.

There is a story where a man slut shames men, marries a woman, fails to have a child, then has a happy life in a sexless throupple when his wife’s woman friend or girlfriend moves in with them. Kind of baller.

Found out today that Hemingway had a trans child.

I thought I had read some of these before. I have. I don’t think I’ve extracted any more meaning out of them. Maybe they’re even sadder than I thought prior. Also I think some of these men are gay. You don’t talk about bananas that way and aren’t gay.

There is a direct line from the “would you rape her?” conversation to the "We're a generation of men raised by women. I'm wondering if another woman is really the answer we need" line in Fight Club. Both dealing with the same misdirected anger but of course I was less uncomfortable with how Fight Club presented it.

What is this obsession white people have with Black people being able to have joy even when they have to deal with everything they have to deal with? It’s so annoying and dehumanizing. Most bothersome aspect of this book.

Starting to think Dean is a god figure.

“His chief hate was Washington bureaucracy; second to that, liberals; then cops.” Is kind of solid politics. It’s too bad this man believe red scare propaganda but we’re almost to the Cold War.

I love how this is written you get a great few sentences explaining how wild these people are and thrown in there is the old “there was even an Asian girl” like buddy you are in NEW YORK how have you not met an Asian lady before? Wild bit of 50’s “liberal” sentiments.

LA section reminded me of Less Than Zero.
