I suffered through 20% of this book to get to a point that has hooked me; so, I’m deciding to continue with it. At least the first fifth was quick reading despite my lack of enjoyment.

Damn, I was so excited for this one, but I am struggling to see the appeal. And I mean ANY appeal in the slightest. Normally, I can understand why people may like a book that I don’t, but I really can’t with this one. I’m committing to another 10% and we will see then if I need to just dnf.

Enjoying this one more than the first book; I find the writing, dialogue, and characterizations to be better done. The story that takes place in the world of the first book still makes little sense to me, but overall, I'm intrigued by everything going on and how it will all connect. Some slow parts, and much that could have been cut IMO, but I'm getting there.

Struggling getting into this. Character work is poorer than in First Law trilogy; every character (except Cosca) who was also featured in the 1st trilogy has become one-dimensional and uninteresting. Plot reads dull and flat despite lots of action written onto the pages. Some humor I enjoy, lots I don't. I'm gonna push through, but it's definitely a drag for me at this point.

Okay, it definitely picked up. I've really been enjoying the last 15% or so. I'm invested again!

Really hoping this picks up. I’m disappointed in this so far! I feel the characters and plot are just no match for the first 2 books. It also feels too long at this point. With the first 2, every sentence felt right, and conveyed wonderful, clear imagery and meaning. This book has many sentences I feel could’ve been cut, and the story taken in more interesting directions.

Very intriguing so far! I don't know too much about this period in history, but I'm loving it. Penman does a great job of bringing the reader into the times.

I'm loving Jackaby in this...such an eccentric character. Definitely picturing Benedict Cumberbatch when I'm reading...

Halfway through and really liking this so far. Great writing style.

Not sure how I feel about this one so far...On one hand, it's a quick read and relatively enjoyable, but on the other, it's pretty superficial and kind of annoying.

Really struggling to stay interested in this one. On the verge of marking it DNF, but I I've read more than half, so I feel like I should just finish it. But, man, it's taking me way longer than a kids book should take to read. I can only read about five pages before I want to set it down again! Hopefully this last half is a lot better...

Things are picking up again.

I really liked the beginning of this and felt the story had a lot of promise, but the middle part of the book so far has not lived up to it. Here's to hoping for an epic end!

I'm having a hard time staying interested in this story. I thought Emily would be the type of character I could connect with because she sounded like how I was in high school, but unfortunately I'm not liking her much. Also the plot is very uneventful so far...

I read this book back when I was a freshman or sophomore in high school, but ever since the television show came out, I've been in the mood to re-read it and read the rest of the series. So far, I think I'm liking it a lot better than I did back then! (I had given it 3 stars originally)
