I am seeing a lot of myself and my experiences reflected in this book. However, it badly needs feminist analysis. The idea that men are 'visual creatures' is lazy thinking. "Good health" is not a morale imperative either. If I read 'females' one more time, I'm going to gouge out my eyes.

I read a couple reviews and decided to bail on this one. I'm dodging this confrontation. Onto book 3!

Very readable. Good info broken down in a way non-academics can understand. Plus, free!

The sexist, and junk science aspects of this book are getting in my nerves. For instance he does an experiment abt decisions while aroused. He only uses hetero males 18+ (bc they're 'simpler') and then extrapolates their response to the entire population. Then throws in some junk abt reptilian brain and priests raping kids as being in this category.

I'm reading this at a pretty good clip. That isn't typical for me when I'm enrolled. Sure if I have a week break or something, I'll plow through; however, I can't get into a book if I have to read in small spurts. So it seems like I'm diggin' it.

Great book so far. A little slow to start; however, it's shaped up nicely. Best book of the year... so far. ;)

Not very engaging writing, yet interesting world. I'm not thrilled about all the accented dialogue. Also, the constant focus on him having "a girl's" name is annoying me. Though I'm not sure why. I'll probably read the next book.

I've stalled on this book because it has no citations. Many of the ideas expressed are taken from other activists in the field, yet no credit is given. Even the science Ragen argues isn't cited. This confuses me since she repeatedly demands citations from others. I've contacted her over a month ago, and she promised to respond, yet I've heard nothing. Very disappointed.

I'm working on the surveys. They don't necessarily fit my situation, and I find them a bit confusing. Whether the attributes listed are positive or negative is largely subjective, which causes difficulty for me to classify one way or the other. I would have liked more attention to be paid to this. If a reader doesn't fit exactly with what Dr. Pearson is going for, is this assessment going to help?
