This book keeps reiterating how fast gossip travels in a small town and how nosy the neighbors are, yet somehow a smashed store window on Main street generates absolutely 0 gossip and no one knows about it?

I know there’s an entire book to get through but why are they already in love and they’ve met like once

I’m giving myself 100 pages, a little less than 1/3 of the novel, to decide to DNF. Because currently all I’m reading is characters going on political tirades and that is not the kind of horror from the synopsis 💀

This is the cringiest book I’ve ever read in my life and I’m only halfway through. As a PhD student who genuinely has seen faculty date grad students, every aspect of this book makes me gag.

Also, Anh, the best friend that is the whole reason the fake-dating comes about, does not seem like a good friend in any way.
