Ugh this book is becoming kind of a punisher. The plot is fairly exciting but the meandering introspection, which seems characteristic of Musil's writing style, combined with Bieneberg's pseudo eastern-philosiphizing and Torless's pyrrhic epiphanies make it kind of a slow read.

I’m not reading this whole thing. I don’t have the background on Carnap for some of these essays. The essay on philosophy and the scientific image of man was illuminating. The idea of “imperceptible particles” that our understanding of reality can be broken into (at an infinitesimal level of quantification?) posing a challenge to the philosophical image of man as the world was particularly edifying.
