I honestly didn’t plan on reading this at the time Lent started but stumbled on this book in a monthy book wrap up video that I watched on either tiktok or youtube a few months ago and found its premise really interesting.
This centers on Medieval Italian history and the philosophy and politics at the time and is mixed with fantasy which I’m not far enough to where there’s been a lot of that yet. Cool so far!

I spent too long sleeping on R.F. Kuang. Really enjoying this so far.

Pretty good so far. The main character annoys me sometimes though

THIS is Backman’s signature writing that I was expecting from “The Answer is No”. This is beautiful so far.

Really cheesy humor and if the intention is for the reader to also be annoyed at the neighbors like the protagonist is, then it’s working

This has not been a good year for me for reading and it doesn’t help that I’m a mood reader too lol

I don’t exactly love it but I like it enough that I’m flying through it and it’s good enough that it got me out of a reading slump. Not really wowing me but I’m still enjoying reading it.
I really thought I’d love this though, guess I’ll see when I finish it.

Kinda pretentious writing and pretentious characters because most of them are writers. I’m still enjoying it so far though.

Ari is on page 107 of 277 of M Train: A Memoir
Patti Smith is an excellent writer. I enjoy when she talks about her trips to cafes or recounts memories of her loved ones but a lot of her musings and references are pretentious and really abstract. Just like with A room of one’s own by Virginia Woolf, I’m not a fan of the stream of consciousness writing.

Basically, I want more memoir and less obscure musing.

This is an emotionally hard “read” (I’m listening to the audiobook, which makes it even more devestating hearing the events told by Jennette herself).
There a lot of difficult topics in this book that should be talked about more though and she talks about it all with a raw transparency.

Her memoir feels a lot more impactful when listening to the audio book that’s narrated by her. I’m not even that far in and I’m shocked by everything she’s talked about so far.
