Glad I gave this book a second go, because it is actually quite interesting! I like how it doesn't shy away from unfavorable portrayals, and apologetically covers the dark side of blind patriotism; particularly it's insidious presence in oppressive systems. Watching Rin's growth has been fascinating and it's rare that a fantasy doesn't have me knowing what to expect.

Besides the nod to George from the far more interesting 'Love, Theoretically', this book hasn't managed to offer anything that ranks it greatly above its predecessor.

The dialogue in this book is super fun, I actually might be even more engaged than I was with 'Love, Hypothetically', despite me being initially skeptical about the third-person writing. The jokes land and the main characters are super likable. The romance is definitely pretty dorky, but I appreciate that, however I really need non-Canadian writers to stop inserting the stereotypical Canadian transplant!

I really like this author's writing, the romance progresses quick between the main characters but she is smart with the interactions and prose she uses to sell the pacing. I definitely prefer a tight story to one that draws on for ages.

So far, there is a lot of interesting exposure to the dysfunctional dynamic that has stemmed from trauma in Feyre's family. Neither Feyre nor Nesta have developed healthy mechanisms to cope with the tragedies they experienced, and the neglect they faced in their upbringing clearly reflects on how they attempt problem resolution in the present.

Thank gosh, the writer was actually talking about the city Ontario in the U.S. state Oregon. Now the story is back to dragging again.

The writer calling Ontario a city threw me off, but I'm disappointed to note it is one of the few moments that caught me throughout this whole story...the prose hasn't hooked me and the characters are bland. Not too big on the conflict either.

The fluidity in the writing dipped in quality as the story progressed, but I do appreciate the description and helpful information on Lycan and werewolf lore. The romance isn't capturing me, I was somewhat pulled in by the side-story with Abbie and Gannon but I am not seeing how it fits in as they randomly got POV chapters only to be sparsely covered again.

The gender dynamics in this book are quite discomforting, was hoping to get context on lycan stories through this book but have struggled to resonate with the style (the repeated exclamation points are particularly annoying), bland heroine and sadistic MLI

Sadly, this book pales to the previous instalments in the series. The combination of recycled plot elements and less 'steam' (the leads have barely done anything together and we're halfway through the book) make this a slog to get through, although I can appreciate the writing.

Can't believe this was released a day after I finished the second book. I was wondering why the third addition to the series hadn't come out in February like the author had claimed would happen in the afterword of the predecessor, but looks like she managed to sneak in the publication just in time!

Not finding the pacing of this book as strong as the first, doesn't help that the author seemed to favor flanderizing beloved returning characters like Gia and Nico (the Gia we met in the first book wasn't this helpless, and Nico wasn't simply brawn without brains) to make us invested in this book's starring couple. The steamy scenes were a high point at first but started to get repetitive and a bit awkward.

So far I'm not enjoying this as much as Emily Rose's writing, the chemistry feels flat and none of the characters are compelling. The heroine has the the personality of chalk, and we're not offered enough about the love interest to feel intensely drawn towards him, either. I'm not finding the interplay of mafia/action with the romance that strong either. There are no real threats so far.

I'm pleasantly surprised by this book. A lot of uncomfortable, dark subject matter, but it seems realistic for the industry and I appreciate that the heroine shows a realistic response towards her circumstances (while not being helplessly agreeable). The pacing has been good so far, character development is to be seen but it looks like we've approached a turning point for the main characters' relationship.

The male LI's backstory added a layer of complexity to the story, I honestly did not expect a random Kindle quick read to explore such dark themes as they were presented in the novel. Writing style could get a bit grating at times with the repetitions of "riiiight", I also hate to use the term "millenial writing" but I'm starting to encounter a lot of books, including this one, where the MC's monologue is alienating.

The book is way better now that the narrative has zoomed forward to the future, and the sensuality reads a lot better with the new conflicts and character developments. I can immerse myself a lot better in the fiction that this story is trying to sell.

I believe we're supposed to see the main relationship in this book as romantic, but I find it hard to see it as anything but creepy grooming...not to mention the writing is pretty lacklustre so the characters lack the depth that might've made their motivations a bit more graspable. Not sure why we couldn't have flash forwarded from the funeral to when Alanna turned into a fully-fledged adult.

Initially I thought this was a sharp downgrade from the first book, but I'm starting to warm up to the protagonists and the overarching conflict is interesting. I like that the author continues to offer historical insights that make the reading experience feel like we're diving into a fresh story while picking up a history lesson at the same time.

Unfortunately, it appears that this novel is a filler episode in written form. There is no actual conflicts in the story, just a mundane coverage of the main characters in their personal lives. Only reading to completion in case anything important is revealed for the last book. Sad to see Nesta's character has regressed.
