Always love when authors of any genre write themselves into a forced mcguffin.

And by love, I mean nothing takes me out of a work faster.

100 pages in and we have neither murder nor mystery. Starting to wonder if this book is mislabeled.

Can we just kill Marie already?

How can so much self-righteousness exist in one book? It’s certainly a question for smarter men.

Remove all of Marie’s chapters and we easily add another star to this book.

Everyone in this book is too angry for words. Screaming and yelling for no reason all of the time. Constantly.

And Marie went from mostly cold logic in the previous book, to an idiot in this one.

How do you call like five people, scream at them all, and not once start with “my protection detail was called off, and my wife kidnapped”? It’s not that hard, you psychopath.

For someone so angry about being thought a traitor (for very good reasons), he has been extremely quick to accuse two people of being traitors already. And he’s only been in three conversations.

Marie is the most emotional “but I only look at facts” person I’ve ever read about. Can I get the Marie from the movies, please?

This was going so well. Why is Bourne so obtuse?

Building was a fortress last chapter. This chapter it is penetrated in the most basic way imaginable. Terrible writing. Just make the place a normal hidden building if that’s what you want it to be.

Here we come to the part of the book where the good guys are too stupid for words.

The way stone men calcify doesn’t feel consistent. Staying still is bad, but so is exertion, and so is injury. That doesn’t make any sense.

“It takes Eladora Duttin two days to solve a mystery that’s haunted Guerdon for centuries.”

Pointing it out doesn’t make it any less stupid a plot point.

Into the sea. Or off a cliff... just get her out of this book.

Uhm... the book just had a character realize something. Except that character isn’t here. Pretty sure the book just referenced the wrong character by accident. Whoops.

Can we throw Eladora in the sea, please?

106 pages in, and I feel like I know way more about what’s going on with the detective-like guy than with any of our three main characters, two of whom are just sitting around being obstinate. It’s not an auspicious start.

This is completely ridiculous, in the best way possible.

It would be lovely if Harry had an emotion that wasn’t anger. The child lives his life turned up to eleven.

The last few books in this series have a terrible habit of introducing something incredibly important, and then hoping we all forgot for 300 pages. :/

Harry is a piece of filth. Just an angry pathetic little hunk of garbage.
