Entry read: Opinion on the Constitutionality of a National Bank

Lots of classic Hamiltonian thought in this one. And lots of really interesting constitutional thought too!

The characters, even just three chapters in, are very vivid. I can easily picture the kind of people I might meet nowadays who are like Dorothea, Casaubon, or Celia.

I feel like Dorothea and I would get along. She’s got that kind of energy.

I really like the writing style too, in particular the way that Eliot narrates the inner thoughts of the characters.

Having read the biography makes all of these a lot more understandable.

Favourite quote from the couple of letters I read for this instalment:

“Because there must be some public fools who sacrifice private to public interest at the certainty of ingratitude and obloquy—because my vanity whispers I ought to be one of those fools”

At least he’s self aware.

Managed to find an edition with the number of pages I have! lol.
