"Whatever interests and occupies the mind takes the place of what is alien and as yet uninteresting. The shadows of thoughts in the mind dim the new perceptions." God he's a great writer

"[...] Jung's 'complex theory' and related ideas concerning psychic energy are not easy to comprehend from an exclusively pragmatic point of view. On the other hand, if one can admit to being open-minded enough to allow for the possible existence of demons, many difficulties in understanding the nature of complexes can be overcome."

Battling the ντεπρέσα: lovely eve putting critics into dialogue; thought I'd read [TW], but Swinburne disabused me; viz., btw,: "compressed rhetoric | heroic scorn | scornful intensity | compressed contempt | concentration of utterance" &c.

W: "He speaks w/ others' tongues, and hears men's suites / with others' ears"
"There's no more credit to be given to th'face / than to a sick man's urine" & ff. (out of chars.)

Writing out the incomprehensible two-page section 3.3 took five pages of single-spaced LaTex, not to mention cross-referencing with the coordinate section in [CLS], which is FORTY pages

Commands metre and expression masterfully, with many fewer tags that any of his contemporaries I've read. In parts, as good as the best lyrics of the time. Made me feel something, which Lydgate could never.

I was shocked--SHOCKED I SAY--to discover that the great Panurge, while in enumerating the 211 qualities of the prophetic fool Triboulet with Pantagruel--a list spanning four pages--actually REPEATS HIMSELF!?!?: He calls Triboulet "A hooded fool,," TWICE!. At least he had the decency to make me laugh by calling him a big-ballocked fool (throwback to Book 3 Chapter 26 w/ its 171 types of "ballock ball-bags")
