Oh dear. I don’t know if I can handle this. We’re already deep in the “idyllic 60’s but oppressed smart women” thing.

I know it’s minor, but the air in So Cal is actually clear NOW than it was in the 60’s- government regulations outlawed leaded fuel and increased fuel efficiency.

So, is this going to play to what people want to *think* the past was, exaggerating it’s warts and beauty marks?

I’m going to say this a couple of times probably, but make up your mind! Were female Viking warriors common and well respected, or were they rebelling against the norm of women being weavers and spinsters? Did fight along men or did they have to prove their mettle every time they walked into a tavern???

So if a middle aged source described a Viking Queen as strong, wise, discerning and skilled in the martial arts, it should be considered accurate, but if one describes a woman as cunning and vicious, it’s probably just the Christian influence against powerful women talking. *eyeroll*

Friend, you really should have given your “real” Viking warrior maiden a different name than the one from the mythic poem, because I am struggling to know who you are talking about.

While I’m intrigued, she’s using one of my least favorite writing methods: NO ONE writes real letters or journal entries the way we write fiction, with word-for-word dialogue and blow-by-blow action.

OMG how many tropes can we lay out in 3 paragraphs??? I know women’s lib is important, but do we have to COMPLETELY dehumanize the past by say that the main reason she’s not married is because she isn’t pretty? I mean, come ON. And can we find a way to say people enjoy reading without making books their “friends”? Also women’s avg age of first marriage in 1920 was 21.2. 25 would be oldish, not Spinster

Again, a quick google shows me attrition is high for all pharmaceutical studies, so weight loss doesn’t seem to exceptional here. And there are a lot of reasons people drop out of studies. They don’t like the side effects, they don’t want to travel as much as required, they just have other things come up. It is possible that they just didn’t focus their entire lives on weight loss.

She really can’t decide if the media is good or bad at feeding the diet-monster. They called out the bad science of wheat belly, but she was praised for pushing people to go gluten free. It’s almost like she was following the actual science...

The problem is these are not opposing findings. It is possible that mortality is lower for overweight people than underweight people, AND that mortality is HIGHER for obese and morbidly obese than for normal and overweight BMI people.

I really wanted to like this, but it’s reaaaly looking like she decided her premise and is going to shoe-horn every event she can in to “proving” her point.
