reading this feels like doing walking lunges up a marathon long hiking trail while someone tosses you a pixie stick every couple miles

had no idea that appalachia has consistently fought tooth and nail against the rest of tennessee & the south to get to the right side of history. how convenient that the history in this book really isn’t taught to tennesseeans now considering it would redirect their rage toward capitalism/elites instead of toward their poc neighbors.

One thing we do have going for us is the fact that none of the parallel characters in today's timeline are such eloquent captivating/energizing speakers the way H was. Otherwise, the parallels aren't looking good!

dude was seriously just an absolute loser… this book is going to be a trudge but already has me hooked

this book has put me into a SOLID reading slump. cheers.
