Knowing how the story unfolds, was not enough to shield me from feeling the whole weight of Alice’s grief. It’s so poignant, so sharp. I feel it pricking my heart with an even greater force this time around, and I realized I am grieving both the tragedy of John and Alice alongside my inability to save them.

A snow storm passing through my town has me experiencing this weeks chapters in a setting closer to what Tolstoy most likely envisioned.

Has been said a million times over, but everything about the book feels so alive! Very immersed already
