Oh Atticus, I am suffering under this same burden and it hurts acutely.

Regarding Elizabeth and her newfound talent for drawing:

Solid gold. This man is really delivering some quality writing in this book.

No other author I read uses foreshadowing as frequently or to such good effect as does Uncle Stephen.

How fun that they walked over to Lake Marie and that I have walked through the campsite that they are staying in. I’ve been to Lake Marie so many times. I’ve spent many hours on and around it and have enjoyed so much time there; it makes listening to the story more special.

When the title of chapter 1 is Thou Shall Not Trust A Two-Faced Bitch, I think this might be a pretty good fit for me. Lol.

Engaging writing so far. I like that our main character is Maori.

I like the author’s use of foreshadowing. it is a literary device that, when well done, I feel can really add to a story.

Also, who in the hell is the narrator? I remember wondering that the first time I listened. She never directly interacts with the other characters.

Glad to read Yong point out how fallible scientific studies and our understanding of other species can be. I get frustrated with people stating that something we “know” about the natural world is the “truth” only to hear later that it isn’t. Let’s be humble and speak of our understanding and not of our knowledge.

I remember mom fussing over my childhood injuries, worrying about the scars I would bear. Don't worry mom, most have been absorbed and transformed by my body to faint shadows of themselves or are gone completely. The few that remain, I wear proudly.
