I currently finished the first chapter and it did its job of capturing my attention. Effia going from the detested child of a slave to the beloved wife of the governor has been a development I didn’t expect but welcomed. I’m really excited to see how the book continues its story and lineage along with how it uses its African setting to its benefit in this historical fiction

this is such a good book but it’s hard to read consistently 😭
