I am REALLY thrown off by the alternate POV in this one but I don’t dislike it

Slow start but I’m optimistic. Always have trouble when one pov is third person and one is first.

Having a hard time leaning into this one tbh.

This book is so long it got returned to libby and added back to my hold list. I am enjoying it but clearly had no idea what was getting myself into.

It is impossible to say whether the typo on page 237 is a mistake or a stylistic choice given ms cash’s propensity to play with the English language like it’s a pickleball at a retirement home.

An exercise REGIME is certainly an interesting take on authoritarianism. (This book is so funny I might die)

This is the funniest series of glyphs that have ever invaded my eyeballs. What an absolutely unhinged delight!

Helluva first page

Okay 9/11 jumpscares right after a man just showed a group his snoopy ankle tattoo should be illegal

On this page, I was surprised and I laughed. I like this book more now. But everything is still told through a thick lens of depersonalization.

I suppose it fits, conceptually. But I laughed!

The first 5 pages had me screaming at the author to get a grip and observe the respect that most of us (idiots) have for common parlance and syntax.

I have a feeling they’ll make more sense once I’ve finished the book.

The sentences have normalized. Praise be.

Reading cyberpunk from the 80s and 90s is such a treat. Everything is such a unique form of optimistic cassette futurism mixed with the shittiest most polluted city you’ve ever heard of.

There’s hoverboards but everyone still uses pay phones but also the air quality is unbreathable and the 13 year olds are all on crank.

Home sweet home.

It’s fine! It’s trying very hard to be 2025 relevant which will date it pretty quickly. I also don’t know who to root for as everyone is pretty unlikable. But it’s paced well and it’s fun!
