This reads like a forgotten masterpiece. Published anonymously to widespread scandal in 1929, Ex-Wife foreshadows so much of the mid-century canon, including the disillusioned urban isolation of The Catcher in the Rye. I’m only a few chapters in, and my jaw has already dropped at how casually Parrott navigates revelations that still feel shockingly modern and raw even a century later.
