in the first 10 pages you learn the entire ruling theology of the setting is a lie constructed to subjugate people; that the main character is harboring a terrible, dangerous secret; the main character’s mother dies; and the main character has a prophetic vision/flashback. this stands out as a particularly badly-paced story so far. the setting is interesting enough to hold my interest, though! i love dragons.
