We learn a lot of the context leading up to this moment, the party itself. Before we can get to the grandfather’s murder the stakes of a HUGE inheritance are made abundantly clear. This details a clear possible motivation for the murder, pending of course who he chooses as his successor.

Wow! Fast introduction to the man plot point of the book - grandpa is dead. We only get a glimpse of this in the beginning though as we immediately move towards the introduction of Hisataro, a man who is 16 who suffers from falling into “the trap” which every now and again forces him to relieve the same day 9 times before progressing. This setup is very intriguing for sure.

Larry broke up with his fiance, (finally), and that was the bulk of this section, the rest of it afterwards just deals with the aftermath of that.

HOLY COW the end of part 1 was masterfully written. Larry and Isabel’s “Confrontation” of sorts was already a very intriguing part but what really moved me was Somerset’s second-hand description of how Larry’s friend died in WW1, which in the present Larry refuses to talk about and after reading the second hand account it’s very clear why. This book is great so far!

Part 1 Chapter 7 is really short but really important. Larry states that he doesn’t know what his purpose really is, and that is his justification for not getting a job, which is definitely interesting and something that may be built off of later.

We’ve now met the main character Larry and the story is getting very interesting now. It looks as though Larry may have PTSD from WW1, or at least something happened in the war that makes him not act the same as he once did

The fourth section of part 1 definitely subverted my expectations with its first line, “If I have given the reader, an impression that Elliott Templeton was a despicable character I have done him an injustice.” This section clarifies that he’s what the French would call Serviceable and he’s done some ok things in his life, this was an intriguing section.

Very well detailed character descriptions, but not much of plot substance yet. The first section explains how this is an account of the memories that the fictional author has for a man. A huge chunk of the first 10 pages describing the snotty Elliot Templeton and that’s pretty much what I’ve gathered so far.

Read chapter 5 today, which was about Bilbo getting the ring from Gollum. Pretty interesting and this part is probably the most connected part to Lord of the rings.

Read chapter 3. In the chapter, we see bilbo and co run into a Elf village, with one particularly important character named Elnrod. So far so good!

Read chapter 2, which was mainly an encounter between the main group and some trolls, pretty funny though it seemed mainly like filler.

I’m reading this for my CP English 10 class. I was assigned chapter 1 and read it, so far it’s pretty decent.

I finished chapter 4 and read all of chapter 5. Chapter 4 just had a conversation that gave some background information to Tom Joad. Chapter 5 had the owners of the land having a conversation with the tenants about how they’re not making a profit. They tell the tenants that they’ll have to get off the land, so they head for California. Chapter 5 was definitely better than 4 to me.

I read half of the 4th chapter today. I wanted to read the full chapter but I simply didn’t have enough time unfortunately. The chapter so far has been a conversation between Tom Joad & a preacher.

I only really had time to read one chapter of the grapes of wrath today, that being chapter 3. It was only 3 pages long and it mostly just described a turtle crossing a highway. It was easily the worst chapter so far due to how unnecessary it is. It’s just here to introduce symbolism for the book that could’ve been lumped into another chapter instead of taking up its own entire chapter.

I read chapter 3 today. Nothing incredibly noteworthy happened in this chapter but it was entertaining for sure. The corruption on animal farm becomes more noticeable, especially with Squealer’s lies. This chapter also includes great foreshadowing with Napoleon & the dogs he takes away to educate.

I read chapter 2 today. While chapter 1 has Old Major giving animals the idea of revolution, chapter 2 sees these plans of revolution come to fruition. It’s a great chapter and the ending perfectly sets up the corruption that comes into play for the rest of the book.

I’ve read the first 2 chapters. Chapter 1 was nothing to right home about since it literally was just describing erosion. Chapter 2 on the other hand had a conversation between the man character Tom Joad and a driver that was pretty engaging and interesting. I’m hoping the rest will be good to!

This is a ongoing re-read of the book, I’m reading the version included in 1984 + Animal Farm and this will be my first book of 2022. I had to read it for 9th grade English class in 2021. Animal Farm is a great work by George Orwell that is very deep in its message and an enjoyable read for anyone.
