We’ve now met the main character Larry and the story is getting very interesting now. It looks as though Larry may have PTSD from WW1, or at least something happened in the war that makes him not act the same as he once did

Finished part 2. Story is still good I don’t have too much else to comment at this time

Larry broke up with his fiance, (finally), and that was the bulk of this section, the rest of it afterwards just deals with the aftermath of that.

HOLY COW the end of part 1 was masterfully written. Larry and Isabel’s “Confrontation” of sorts was already a very intriguing part but what really moved me was Somerset’s second-hand description of how Larry’s friend died in WW1, which in the present Larry refuses to talk about and after reading the second hand account it’s very clear why. This book is great so far!

Part 1 Chapter 7 is really short but really important. Larry states that he doesn’t know what his purpose really is, and that is his justification for not getting a job, which is definitely interesting and something that may be built off of later.

The fourth section of part 1 definitely subverted my expectations with its first line, “If I have given the reader, an impression that Elliott Templeton was a despicable character I have done him an injustice.” This section clarifies that he’s what the French would call Serviceable and he’s done some ok things in his life, this was an intriguing section.

Very well detailed character descriptions, but not much of plot substance yet. The first section explains how this is an account of the memories that the fictional author has for a man. A huge chunk of the first 10 pages describing the snotty Elliot Templeton and that’s pretty much what I’ve gathered so far.
