this book is everything <3 i always have a pen ready when i read it because theres so many things to underline and star

I read the first half of this book last summer and it changed my life for the better. I’m hoping I can get through the entire thing this time :)

this book already seems way too logistical and all about nazi police forces so i am not enjoying it but need to read about it for class so!

Very heavy. I have read memoirs of holocaust survivors recounting their experience, but I have rarely read about how it felt for them to return to Germany. Peter’s description of the alienation he felt along with all of the trauma, resentment, and mourning for what once was his home makes my chest ache.

when christopher said he wished the earth would swallow natalia i felt that

im so dumb and didnt realize the author is the narrator and “issyvoo” is just “isherwood” with a german accent. anyways i love this book

i have to read this for a class but im reaaally enjoying it. sally and christopher’s dynamic is so fun
