It's been a long time I felt this way about a fantasy book.

I'm enjoying that it is written from the Raven's point of view. I find it quite intriguing.
As for the plot itself, I can't deny it is strange to read typical swear words in a fantasy setting. The scene where Yana's mother comes out of prison with her baby sister "born in the dark and brought to light" reminded me of The Scarlet Letter.

Do you know Philomena Cunk? I'm reading this in her voice because the tone is too similar to hers.

What I like is that the author points out how roroman history used to heavily acknowledge the importance of women and, therefore, their exclusion in current remembrance of those times is a modern problem.

One important thing to keep in mind when reading this is to not take the tone too seriously, especially when its aim is to ridicule events in history that are, quite frankly, absurd. What is history, if not a long stretch of dominos, put in motion by nonsensical decisions ?

A great affection for all characters, notably for Emma, sprung in my heart. I could not tell why, but their repeated visits to their friends' houses are unexpectedly comforting. As if I had read this a thousand times before, and I will read it a thousand times again.

It is such a comforting book! I find myself unable to stop reading as the moment I put it down, there is an unmistakable urge to pick it back up. Another chapter has turned into no less than fourteen thus far...

I came across this part where Hawthorne says that we'd be unsettled to come across women with such a sharp tongue and boldness as the villagers in his current time. It was in this moment when I knew for certain the author had never met a Balkan/Slavic woman. There is a harshness that transcends generations in the way we speak.

I'll actually start this when the clouds stop having a meltdown. What is it with all this crying???? One cannot read about balls and beautiful gardens if one cannot see a single ray of sun in the sky.
