Something I didn’t expect to find in this book, is how poignant the portrayal of grief is made. I think because of the modern obsession with mass murder, serial killers, cults and the like, I wouldn’t be as devestated as I thought. I think there is void a principal in modern media, one that doesn’t have to convince you to care. Here the ripples of mourning are made plain, lacking as a drama, but not unmoving.

Enjoying how forthright the books questions are posed. Characters ask these questions almost directly to the readers, making for something of a cautionary tale. I’ve always picked up on a pedophiliac (or rather a ephebophiliac) undertone in the world of upstanding adults poised opposite of Alex’s world of violence, being very present in Kubrick’s adaptation.
