Figured out the killer.

A couple of egregious editing errors. A TSTL heroine. Too much clever. I'm done.

"I'd went..." Really?

One vague assumption and/or trivial misunderstanding I can deal with. Two is stretching it. Three may earn a DNF. These aren’t even BIG misunderstandings or assumptions. Further, there’s no logical basis for them. They’re small, silly, stupid, and unsupported/able.

Stick a fork in me. I'm done. Review to follow.

The duke confesses to his housemaid that he has a seckrit bebe, and, for whatever reason, this is where my patience with this TSTL master-servant/confidante relationship has run out.

For a heroine and hero who are supposed to be good at their jobs (namely, acting and observing, respectively), they're completely incompetent at them. If he doesn't figure it out soon within the next two sentences or so, I'm going to DNF it. I've never read this author before, but I can tell bothe she and her editor were phoning it in.

Very cute story, but except for the sex, comes off as a middle-grade tale because of the childish writing. I'm wanting more depth, more characterization, to match the concept.

She wore heels and a skirt to a meeting on a boat moored on the Thames, then refused hero's assistance getting ON the boat. What do you think happened? DNF

So the next issue is her total disregard for her BFF's (traveling companion) (who paid for the trip) wishes in the interest of being an American butting into a foreign country's issues like, "Stand aside now. The Big Bad American will solve all your problems." I may DNF if it gets much more ridiculous.

The heroine's activism has no foundation before she goes apeshit in a foreign country. I might have believed it if there had been more time setting this facet of her character instead of going straight for the stranger sex. So now I'm frustrated with it because I have no frame of reference for this.

I haven't picked it up again since my last update, so I'll DNF it. Kinda meh.

I'm skipping sex scenes now,as that seems to be the entirety of the relationship. Yay, she gives good head and yay, he eats pussy oh somdelightfully. Got it. I wouldn't have so many problems with that if they ever REALLY sat down and talked. Ian is almost interesting to enough to carry the whole book, except he's not. Also, Hart is an ass. "Protective" doesn't absolve him of it.

DNFing, as I find I really don't care. Their motives are too obscure and wrapped up in lovely prose for me to see who they really are.

There are lovely moments of prose, but so far I'm finding it pretty easy to put down and do something else.

I don't think I have ever read such lovely prose in my life.

Nope, still going, but now I'm studying the language and trying to figure out the angle of attack re Dunham.

This hero's as dumb as a box of rocks. I can flow with almost any evil a hero can do, but being stupid isn't something I can easily forgive. I must see if it gets any better...

I don't think I've ever read more boring erotica in my life and I've started reading it as parody. I will say this: the euphemisms are ingenious: "...engine of love assaults..." is the latest one that made me cackle.

Finally giving into the lure of the humor... This is a print book and thus, gets short shrift on that alone, but it's hella funny and I need that right now.

No, not dealing well with heroine's inability to act like a housekeeper. As she is apparently some sort of conwoman, this inability is especially egregious.

On paper. Relegated to bathroom reading, so it's slow.

i like this a lot, but it's paper and paper gets relegated to the bathroom these days. Thus, it's slow going.

I may have to DNF this one. I like the faux-classic/historical prose a lot, but I don't buy the relationship setup this soon.
