My favorite author. I mourn the fact he hasn’t written more

That was so cheesy how they introduced who the ghost was and how Jude’s past caught up with him. No lead up.

The writing is incredible. The narrator is spot on. But I’m so annoyed that they gave away the whole ghost. Like now that I know what’s going on it just isn’t as spooky

I keep pausing but this book is a literary masterpiece.

“He searched the ground floor and found only shadow and stillness, which should‟ve reassured him but didn‟t. It was the wrong kind of stillness, the shocked stillness that follows the bang of a cherry bomb. His eardrums throbbed from the pressure of all that quiet, a dreadful silence.”

I’m seven minutes in and I’m already spooked. I actually went to go make sure my front door was locked.

This book is crass. I didn’t love the use of the word “pussy” to reference a stripper’s hoohah. Also are we in 1996 still or no? I’m a bit lost already

Creepy!!
Then I became aware of an odd, rapid popping sound; a brittle crackling, very low, but continuous.
The others came to see what I was looking at, and I said, could they hear it? Hugo said, ‘Oh, that’s just air bubbles in the ice, being popped by the slapping of the waves.’
‘Sounds as if it’s talking to itself,’ I said.
Hugo shook his head and grinned. Fat Algie goggled at me as if I’d gone mad.

Damn. This book sucks you in. I’m already 9% in and I just started reading. Getting my hands on a copy in the US was next to impossible though.

Maybe it’s intentional but I have no concept of time within this book. Days? Weeks? Months? Years? I legit have no idea

It’s just so many facts. There’s no story. It’s just pure facts. But it is eye opening

This book is horrific. I’ve never read a more obvious, poorly written horror novel. There is nothing subtle about it. It’s so straightforward that it reads almost at a 5th grade level.

It’s so annoying that she tells us that someone died in here. How does she even know that. It’s just a scary room and instead she spoiled the whole plot.

She writes in such an obvious way. There’s no build up. It’s just boom here it is. You’re not able to think because she announces what it is immediately

I really like them switching back and forth between narrators in the audiobook. They are also really setting it up well

I didn’t realize it was written (updated version) so recent. I feel like COVID-19 is now a BC/AC event. Before COVID and after.

Half of all people in the US knew someone that died of COVID. That’s crazy. Also global warming is causing 90% of people in the US past 15 years have lived near or in a disaster (wildfire, hurricane, etc).

Forecasts causes fewer deaths. Earthquake alarms. Hurricane tracking. etc

DID NOT LIKE THAT HE SAID “on the Deuce … to be sold or be hunted if you were stupid enough.”

Total victim blaming. Already dropping it down to 4 stars for that alone.
