She gave up her puppy because it chewed on her furniture. That bugged me

This book is horrific. I’ve never read a more obvious, poorly written horror novel. There is nothing subtle about it. It’s so straightforward that it reads almost at a 5th grade level.

It’s so annoying that she tells us that someone died in here. How does she even know that. It’s just a scary room and instead she spoiled the whole plot.

She writes in such an obvious way. There’s no build up. It’s just boom here it is. You’re not able to think because she announces what it is immediately

I really like them switching back and forth between narrators in the audiobook. They are also really setting it up well

I didn’t realize it was written (updated version) so recent. I feel like COVID-19 is now a BC/AC event. Before COVID and after.

Half of all people in the US knew someone that died of COVID. That’s crazy. Also global warming is causing 90% of people in the US past 15 years have lived near or in a disaster (wildfire, hurricane, etc).

Forecasts causes fewer deaths. Earthquake alarms. Hurricane tracking. etc

We still are not even talking about history. I’m just hearing about women serial killers

DID NOT LIKE THAT HE SAID “on the Deuce … to be sold or be hunted if you were stupid enough.”

Total victim blaming. Already dropping it down to 4 stars for that alone.

I LOVE how the author takes the time to spatialize the Donnor party in time. I viewed their travels as so abstract and medieval. I didn’t realize it was when New York was bustling with restaurants, telegrams were being sent via Morse code, and steam trains were chugging around the country.

The pacing of the narrator is so weird. He pauses halfway through a sentence then continues again as if he’s starting a new one

Good but the narrator is odd. His pacing is off and doesn’t make sense at times
