I was expecting this to be a case by case dive. Instead it’s a biography, an introduction to criminal justice textbook, and a forensics for dummies guide. Literally the perfect blend for bringing the life of a coroner to folks not in the field. I’m passionate about pathology and I’m still learning so much.

It bothered me that he referred to dead Latinos killed by heatstroke as cooked rotisserie chickens… this isn’t a time to use your literary prowess of metaphors.

I didn’t like that he presented a fictional account as real until the end

The graphic descriptions of sexual violence are upsetting

This is literally how people die in every horror movie. Dont. Buy. The. Creepy. Doll. Guess what he did? Bought the creepy doll.

I LOVEEE how the author recognizes his privilege and how this book was written through a mostly male lens due to access/gender norms/etc. I’ve never heard an author acknowledge the lens through which they write.

The casual animal abuse is so upsetting. Torturing iguanas. Hearing about a corpse of a dog desperately licking itself. So upsetting.

It makes me sad how they talk to the children

To blame the victim is nuts. It isn’t the victim that was infected fault. If someone says they aren’t infectious, the partner should have faith in believing them. This book is so upsetting. The author loves to blame the victim.

Why is he spreading false inaccurate myths like covid can be traced back to penguins…

He’s anti police UNTIL it’s his family member. Then he’s in full support of the work they do? I’m sorry, but that’s picking and choosing.

Some of my closest friends have HIV. Mr. Thrasher is acting like it’s akin to getting a cold. No. The meds taken are very serious and wreck havoc on some people’s systems. They affect your kidneys, liver, and pancreas. They make you sick. It isn’t nothing like he claims

The author is pissing me off. Claiming that they didn’t see a man breaking in. Only a small person crawling out after breaking a window. Bruh. Obviously didn’t deserve a lynch mob but this is wild reporting. Also the author writing about cheating on his boyfriend and making everything about him is wild.

The author completely misses the point. Johnson wasn’t truthful. Was he prosecuted fairly? Probably not and that alone comes down to race but he wasn’t truthful. If the author was the one infected in this way, he likely wouldn’t be speaking like this.

I’m sorry, but this whole Johnson thing is fucked. Johnson exposed his partners. It’s the same reason spitting on someone is considered assault. It’s not cool. Also the secret filming is beyond fucked. The author comes across as victim blaming and cruel.
