Oh my god he’s so dramatic and NEVER explains anything fully

This argument is so repetitive without either of them saying anything

Sometimes it feels like the only thing she thinks about are how much she’s thinking about him and that she should not be thinking about him so much. I do not think this book passes the Bechdel test.

It’s all telling, no showing. And it’s also all, “I shouldn’t feel this way, why does she affect me this way?” Wouldn’t it make more sense for him to be a little bit more secretive about his sentiments, especially around other vampires? Also, adding a little bit more nuance and mystery would help it be more interesting.

This book feels like I’m watching that one tiktok girl being a “pick me” girl in fantasy, with obnoxious exposition (“I don’t believe I need to tell you…” followed by an explanation of the world that both characters should clearly know), and characters that act in cliche ways instead of actions that would be motivated by the situation

I still think “betwixt ancient trees” isn’t going to be real trees at all, but people— between 2 people, maybe a Rowan and a Yew, maybe their graves…?

Even starting in book one, but now more and more, I feel like Ione has a depth of devastation and trauma connected with choice being taken away from her. In book one— the scythe during the chalice “game” and Hauth confirming it wasn’t the first time he’d used it on her. And each reluctant tidbit she shares about her goals reveals more depth of her character
