Feeling a little fatigued; I guess it's normal, so I'll respect that and step away from now. What a strange day I had.

Cervantes disses the hell out of the Aragonese author who published a fake sequel to his first book. Sancho disses the innkeeper, who boasted about having all the food in the South of the Meridian, but had only Cow's Feet. I'm giddy with anticipation to finish this magnificent book. I will miss its company and counsel.

To believe that the things of this life will endure forever, unchanged, is to believe the impossible.

Everything is in this book.
The back and fourth between Governor Sancho and Don Quixote at the Duke's property is rhythmically engaging and exciting.
Gambling has ALWAYS existed, it's wild to read a text from the 1600s talking about gambling houses and how difficult it is to close them because they are run by influential people!!
Like... Ugh, this book gets it. This book has everything in it.
I'm sleepy & tired.

Pitiful for a Saturday. Sancho is a great governor. I love him so much.

I'm speechless. Don Quixote's Advice to Sancho is a philosophical text in itself; rivaling Machiavelli's.
What a tremendously wonderful book. You go from Wooden Horses in the sky to a speech on Ethics in Governorship.
Sancho promises to eructate no more.
Cervantes gets meta with his comments on his first two attached novellas (The Man Who Was Recklessly Curious and The Captive Captain). Abed Nadir would've loved this

Soaring through the skies, mounted on Clavileño, Sancho swears he saw the whole Earth and it is as small as a mustard seed. It's so interesting to read that part because Cervantes never would've dreamed about modern aviation. I began picturing every scene as a magical, detailed painting since this edition doesn't have illustrations. What a magical, deeply detailed story this one is. Lewis Carroll has someone whom to

Really and truly, all those who enjoy histories like this one ought to show their gratitude to Cide Hamete, its first author, for his care in telling us its smallest details and clearly bringing everything, no matter how trivial, to light. He depicts thoughts, reveals imaginations, responds to tacit questions, clarifies doubts, resolves arguments; in short, he expresses the smallest points that curiosity might ever d

Couldn't sleep last night, so I'm only putting so many pages today. What a cruelty that they're making my old buddy Sancho whip himself 3300 times for their sick elitist amusement. May the gray save him, and may God punish the unjust, and may Sancho get double the amount of pain in gold; for God rewards the meek and punishes the sly, and it's better to have two birds in hand than two in the bush, and it's better to h

The duchess and duke are the perfect refresher the book was needing at this point. The couple is mischievous, they play along, she adores Sancho (as any sane person will), and, as rich people will, they play mind games with people they consider of lesser worth for their own amusing and entertainment.
I'm at a high point right now where they seem to be getting into a conflict with an enemy tribe.

I could've done better today, 27 pages on a Saturday is fine, but it could be better. I have been distracted for the past few days by useless distractions. But oh well that's just the way it is. I feel like I have been with this book for enough time now. I am okay for it to start ending. I still love it, sinner that I am, and may God strike me down if that's not true (that's a Sancho reference for those unfamiliar)->

The Knight of the Green Cape is an amazing character and I instantly liked him. How was Cervantes about to do that so effortlessly? With only a few lines he establishes atmosphere, depth, and boom, you like the character. He's real, he's fully fleshed out, and you connect with him.
Also, the curds in the helmet? I can see where Chavo del Ocho takes his inspiration for his shenanigans. Don't even get me started on the

We're finally going to see Dulci!? I'm so happy right now. Hooray for part 2, which strikes the perfect balance between depth and hilariousness. I love Sancho, but obviously DonQui is a most lovable, truly adorable, valiant Knight of my Literally Life.
¡Con la Iglesia hemos topado, Sancho!
I'll steal that, oh I will, this is the perfect quote. I've found it. I love this book, I haven't been this excited since EoE.

Progressing slowly through the 2nd book. I know it's going to be great and I'm enjoying it, but it feels chunkier, more substantial, and expansive, therefore I'm going slowly, taking the scenic route. It is touching on topics of class ascension—not that it didn't in book 1— this time more directly. It feels like I'm experiencing a story turn into an immortal discussion on the Human Experience. I couldn't be more glad

First Part is read! It is not necessary for me to tell how much I adore this book. This edition, though the translation and notes are amazing, is very disappointing: no illustrations and they crammed 1000 pages in a flimsy paperback, which makes it so weird. I shall buy a box set, maybe one in Spanish.

Couldn't progress too much today, busy day, going through it... siiiigh.
But it never fails to amaze me how Cervantes ends an arc and immediately hooks you in for the next one. Maria Zoraida's arc was amazing. The inn keeps getting fuller and fuller. Onto the muledriver's son arc.

The captive's story is as interesting as the main story. And Cervantes keeps you ever invested. As soon as he concludes the tale of Zoraida the Judge arrives at the Inn, which by my faith seems to be the center of all Spain at this point. The hot spot to be, I guess. I love it though. Such a moving book, so current, so engaging. I've read only good long books this year. And I'm thinking Don Quixote is my favorite.
