Kya and her father developed a relationship through fishing. It’s the first time she’s felt some kind of family bonding since everyone else left. She needed someone. She needed to talk to someone. The report on the Chase’s death shows nothing, but the officers believe this wasn’t an accident. People around are talking though.

Tate may be someone that can fill the void for Kya that her Ma and Jodie left in her. Tate doesn’t have a younger sister or mother anymore so Kya could possibly fill that void for him. He comes from a good home with his father. They work hard, take care of their family, and can express their feelings in a proper way.

Boy oh boy oh boy. This poor girl. As naïve as can be. She doesn’t pick up on social cues. And most importantly, when she really likes someone she looks past a lot of red flags like with Mrs. Black and Rodney. No wonder she fell for Wilbur. Nothing yet has been revealed about Mrs. Black, but we can see Molly aids criminals unbeknownst to her.

The body of Chase Andrews was found by two boys. Chase was the same little boy riding his bike with his friends earlier in the book.

So far it’s a very interesting book.

Kya is pretty much abandoned by everyone around her. She takes comfort in the marsh. The water. He serenity. She first loses her mother when she left and then all of her other siblings left. They all left because of an abusive and neglectful father. Kya learned so much from her mother and brother Jodie. She has trouble trying to fill that void of losing them.

Molly the maid is an interesting character. A little naive, and not social ques, but she’s interesting and takes pride in what she does and cares for the people around her. She appreciates honesty and decency. She loathes cheaters like Wilbur and Cheryl. I think she may find out there are more cheaters around her thank she realizes.
